DJ Solutions guide to a perfect party

party guideDJ Solutions guide to a perfect party DJ Solutions is a Sydney based DJ company specializing in providing mobile disc jockey’s for hire. Through our years of experience we have been able to develop a step by step guide for the perfect party. Whilst picking a DJ is critical, there are also many other factors you must consider when planning a party. Please have a read of our recommendations below for a successful night.

Planning

Planning is one of the most critical steps in having a great night. Be sure that you have worked out how many guests you are expecting so you can make sure you have catered for enough food, drinks and seating for your guests. ·

Send invites out at least once a month in advance ·

Have a look at what special events lie around your party date. For example, if planning a birthday, be sure to consider things like public holidays, celebrations days such as mothers or fathers day, sporting events such as football finals. By planning around these, you can ensure that most your guests will be available on the night and that they are not annoyed by missing certain events.

If weather forecasts predict wet weather, make sure you have enough cover. Even if the daytime looks fine, it is still a good idea to prepare just in case it does rain, because wet guests aren’t happy guests. ·

If you are booking a function centre, be sure to give plenty of notice. Some wedding reception centres may be booked out for over a year in advance. Some function centres may also have a 2-3 month waiting list. ·

If having a party in a residential area, make sure you take the time to let your neighbors know. Most neighbors tend to be alright with the noise if you are kind enough to apoligise in advance. This can ensure that your party goes into the early hours of the morning if that’s how you want it to be. ·

If you are having a party at a function centre, be sure you find out what time you can have the party to. Many function centres and halls have a power restriction in place that cuts the power at 12 am.

Picking your DJ

Once you have prepared the guests list, food, seating, shelter and secured your venue you must now consider the entertainment.

The most important rule is don’t use home stereo systems. I have been to too many parties in the past where the hosts have decided to just play cd’s from a home stereo. This is a party killer. The reason being is that the music tends to be what the owner likes, and doesn’t mean that the rest of the guests will like it. The sound also tends to be pretty poor, so many of your guests won’t even be able to hear the music.

A band could be considered for a party, but they are usually very expensive and require a lot of room to set up.

A DJ is a great option for creating a real party vibe. A DJ can keep your guests entertained all night. A DJ will also have a very broad range of music to ensure that all guests music liking is catered for. DJ’s also tend to come with lighting and smoke machines which create a great atmosphere, especially for younger crowds.

When picking your DJ, be sure they are experienced, they have good quality sound and lighting, they have a broad range of music and that they are open to guests requests.

Select a DJ that fits the age group of your guests. For example, if you are having a 21st, make sure the DJ is around this age group because they will tend to have a better understanding of what that age group likes.

We hope that this advice has been beneficial in helping you plan your party. Please send us an email if you have any other suggestions for this plan.

DJ Mag’s Top 100 launches Best Electro (etc) DJ Poll

Dj top 100 launches BestDJ Magazine unveiled details of this year’s top 100 DJ poll this week and revealed that they’ll be awarding medals for new categories including ‘Best House DJ’, ‘Best Electro DJ’ and ‘Best Hard Dance DJ’ at this year’s awards party.
The magazine predicted they’ll attract even more votes than the 123,933 the hugely poll received last year, despite increasing criticism from many of the DJs featured in the 100 including Sander Kleinenburg who last year branded it ‘the most ridiculous thing that’s ever penetrated our scene’.
“Don’t forget that the only people that vote in these things are 19 year old spotty guys,” the Dutch star (position 20) told Australian magazine 3D World last year, “I don’t think you’re going to get a beautiful 23 year old woman that goes to the website to vote after having a great night out.”
UK techno lord Dave Clarke (36) also spoke harshly earlier this year telling Skrufff ‘if capitalism is the new Christianity, Van Dyk must be God and Tiesto Jesus.’
“The recognition that means the most to me is a room full of bouncing booty and happy faces whilst listening to music that is alternative to the scrote that trance DJs ‘play’,” Dave added.
“It’s about being bankable but keeping it true, following your beliefs and yet still being successful all over the world. Soldiers get their awards posthumously.”
Danny Howells (25) also complained about stars like Slam being omitted from the poll, while New York house star Victor Calderone (60) told Skrufff “I want to be a part of it but it is very much about hype.”
“It’s great to be on the list and to be acknowledged but it’s just hype in my eyes,” said Victor, “The bottom line is that if you’re working, staying focused and putting out good music, that’s what’s important,” he suggested.

DJ, 16 years old, gets primetime slot at festival

Created On August 10th, 2006
16 year old DJ gets primetime slot at festivalAt a music festival starring some of the biggest DJs in the world, a sixteen year-old Belfast DJ could well steal the show.
Radio 1 DJ Fergie has given Jordan McCuaig, aka Jordan X, the last half hour of his primetime DJ slot at Planet Love at Shane’s Castle, Antrim, on Saturday 9th September.
As well as playing to a 10,000 strong home crowd from the main Love Arena, Jordan’s set will also be broadcast live on Radio 1 across the UK and world, as the station will broadcasting live from Planet Love this year.
“I’d like to say I see a lot of myself in Jordan but I wish I’d been as clever,” said DJ Fergie.
“He’s so ahead of his game. He’s doing so much that I still don’t even do! He’s making his own tracks. He has so much more to offer than what I offer ed at my time. Someone like that deserves a chance. If he’d been from England I’d still have given him the chance.”
Ironically, DJ Fergie rose to fame via a similar opportunity, when at the age of 14 he was taken under the wing of Tony DeVit. Nowadays Fergie is listed in the DJ Top 100 World DJs and currently hosts a weekly show on BBC Rad io 1.
“It goes back to years ago when Radio 1 started the search for a DJ project,” Fergie continued. “I was a judge and picking up the entries. I was sat in the office going through CDs with Matt Priest who was the executive producer of Radio 1 at that time. We heard Jordan’s CD and thought it was great. Then we read the letter and saw that he was only 14. This spurred us on. Most of the other entries were from people aged 16 and 17.”
Jordan, who is a 6th form student of Belfast High School in Jordanstown, says of the opportunity: “I’m really blown away to be playing in the Love Arena at Planet Love AND aside a Radio One line up which includes Fergie, Jules, Mauro Picotto, the world’s number one DJ Paul Van Dyk – and peak time to over 10,000 clubbers! Half the UK’s dance fraternity will be listening on their radios on the way to clubs, at home, wherever. It’s just unbelievable. And it’s at home!”
“I have utmost respect for Fergie,” he continues. “He’s possibly the most successful DJ to have emerged from this country, and definately one of the most genuine… His Radio One show is coming to an end this summer, and it has been, for the last 3 years, based around giving new talent opportunities, and this is the ultimate exa mple of putting this into practice.”
Jordan will play from 11pm until 11.30pm. Dancestar champ US DJ Christopher Lawrence will follow him.
